There has never been a better time for entrepreneurs than now, says John Sculley, Former President of Pepsi-Cola and Apple, and currently investor and mentor in multiple ventures. According to Sculley, technology is now affordable to all - big data, cloud computing, mobility, all the latest advantages that technology can provide is available to everybody. Entrepreneurs need not be geniuses like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates to make it big and they need not come up with solutions that "change the world" to be very successful. What they need to have is an understanding of multiple domains and the ability to connect the dots between these domains to come up with innovative solutions. Sculley calls this adaptive entrepreneurship - entrepreneurs today need not invent something new to make a great difference. Steve Jobs, one of the greatest geniuses of our times did not really invent anything new. He had a multiple domain perspective and in his own words "zoomed out to connect the dots between different domains and then zoomed in to simplify". What managers and entrepreneurs need to learn to do today is to create solutions/ products/ services by cross-referencing and converging multiple domains to simple new possibilities.
